If you’re looking for an explanation of the new EU import duty rules coming into effect on 1 July 2026, there are already some excellent resources available.

Official European Commission guidance: https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/news/guidance-and-legal-text-temporary-flat-fee-low-value-imports-which-will-apply-until-1-july-2028-2026-06-08_en

Royal Mail’s practical overview for UK businesses: https://www.royalmail.com/europeantradeinsights

Rather than repeating what’s already been written, this article focuses on something more useful: what ecommerce brands can do to reduce the impact of the new rules.

1. Review Your HS Classifications

This is probably the biggest opportunity.

Many brands have accumulated HS codes over several years, often using different suppliers, customs brokers and often just quickly added to inventory records to get an order out quickly.

It’s worth carrying out a full review to check:

Are similar products classified differently?

Are products using unnecessarily specific commodity codes?

Could some products legitimately be declared under the same HS6 heading instead of using more detailed 8 or 10-digit classifications?

The objective is not to change classifications simply to reduce duty. Your commodity codes must always remain accurate.

Pay particular attention to products that are commonly purchased together, as these are where a review is most likely to deliver savings.

2. Analyse What Customers Buy Together

Look at your most common product combinations and identify where customers regularly purchase several different tariff headings within the same order.

Those combinations are where the additional customs costs will have the biggest impact.

Understanding these purchasing patterns allows you to redesign offers around products that naturally fall within the same customs classification where appropriate.

3. Rethink Your Bundles

Bundles suddenly become much more strategic.

Instead of building bundles purely around best sellers, consider whether you can create bundles using products that already share the same HS classification.

Customers still receive great value, while reducing the number of customs duty charges applied to the shipment.

4. Optimise Checkout Upsells

Well optimised stores will already recommend additional products at checkout.

Now those recommendations have another consideration.

If two products perform similarly, consider prioritising the recommendation that shares the same customs classification as the item already in the customer’s basket.

A small tweak to your upsell strategy could reduce customs costs for customers without negatively affecting average order value.

5. Build the Cost Into Your Promotions

If you’re passing some or all of the new customs duty onto customers, it may be worth redesigning your promotions.

The additional discount can effectively offset part (or all) of the new customs duty, making the overall purchase feel just as attractive.

6. Review Subscription Frequencies

Subscription businesses have another opportunity.

Instead of shipping every month, consider shipping every two months with twice the quantity.

Customers receive exactly the same amount of product over time, but the number of imports, and therefore the number of customs charges, is effectively halved.

As an added bonus, you’ll reduce shipping and fulfilment costs too.

7. Simplify Your Product Catalogue

Take a fresh look at your catalogue.

Ask yourself:

Are there products that generate very few sales?

Are there unnecessary variations?

Could some accessories be consolidated?

Are there duplicate products serving the same purpose?

A leaner catalogue often improves profitability anyway, and these new customs rules make that exercise even more worthwhile.

8. Speak to Your Fulfilment Partner

For brands using a 3PL or if you are a Packed Posted client, we may already have the data needed to identify savings.

A good 3PL can help you identify:

Frequently purchased product combinations

Inconsistent commodity code usage

Opportunities to redesign bundles

Ways to reduce customs costs without affecting customer experience

The biggest savings may not come from changing your products but from changing how they’re sold, bundled or fulfilled.

Final Thoughts

This change is a blow to brands. There is no getting around that. But a review of your commodity codes, product bundles, checkout recommendations, subscriptions and fulfilment strategy could significantly reduce the impact of the new rules, while also improving conversion rates, simplifying operations and increasing average order value.

If your competitors are also based outside the EU – this could be your opportunity to get a step ahead.

What’s Changed: Understanding the New Normal for UK-US Shipping

On April 2nd, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on nearly all imports into the United States. But here’s the immediate good news for most UK e-commerce brands: if you’re shipping directly to US customers and your products are low-value (under £600/$800), very little will change for you.

This is crucial to understand from the outset – the majority of D2C shipments from UK warehouses to American consumers will continue flowing without additional tariffs thanks to the Section 321 de minimis exception, which allows packages valued under $800 to enter the US duty-free. Although the future of the Section 321 rule is not clear and will be covered in a future post.

For example, if you’re like most of our clients who ship cosmetics, apparel, or specialty foods directly to American consumers with average order values below £500, your customers should continue receiving their orders without unexpected charges.

I say should, as although no tariffs will apply we have already experienced confusion at the ports first-hand…

However, there are some important nuances to understand about these new tariffs and potential future changes. Here’s what you need to know.

What Are the New Tariffs?

In short, the U.S. has imposed a new baseline 10% tariff on all imports, including goods from the UK. Some countries face even higher rates – for example, China (34%), the EU (20%), and Japan (24%).

It’s important to know that these rates are on top of other tariffs already enforced.

Remember these duties are on top of existing duties.

So for China you have to

Original duty
7.5-25% duty from section 301
20% from earlier this year
34% today
25% for China’s purchases of Venezuelan oil

Over 100%!
— Ryan Petersen (@typesfast) April 2, 2025

Here’s a table of the headline rates:

The tariffs cover a wide range of products including vehicles, electronics, metals, clothing, and even items like aluminium cans. While the UK is not being singled out, we are not exempt either.

Who Pays the Tariffs?

The Reality vs. The Rhetoric

In almost all cases, the U.S. importer or customer pays the tariff. That means if you’re a UK brand selling to American retailers, they could suddenly be asked to pay 10% more when your goods reach them.

There’s a significant communication gap happening right now. While political messaging often suggests that “other countries pay the tariffs,” the reality is that it’s the American consumer who ultimately receives the bill. This disconnect means many of your US customers may be completely unprepared for these additional charges.

The Customer Experience Impact

That’s a real problem. No one likes surprise charges, especially not on international orders. Worse, it creates a poor customer experience, and in some cases, they might refuse delivery altogether, resulting in reverse logistics and extra charges for the shipper.

One of our clients, who sells safety products that are normally tariff-exempt, recently had a customer face an unexpected import bill. The confusion took so long to resolve that UPS eventually lost the package. Though a claim has been filed and compensation is due, it highlights how border agencies and customs departments are particularly overwhelmed right now in the US.

Pricing Strategies to Consider

As a brand owner, you may need to reconsider your pricing strategy. Options include:

Absorbing the potential tariff costs to maintain competitive pricing

Adjusting prices upward to account for possible tariffs

Creating clearer messaging about potential import fees at checkout

What About the Section 321 Exemption?

Here’s the silver lining: most D2C shipments from the UK aren’t affected by the new tariffs. That’s thanks to something called the Section 321 de minimis rule.

If a package is valued under $800, it can enter the U.S. duty-free and tariff-free.

That means:

Most e-commerce orders still get in without additional charges.

Your American customers won’t suddenly get hit with unexpected fees (for now).

However, it’s important to stay vigilant. The only confirmed exception so far is China, where the U.S. will suspend the Section 321 exemption from May 1st. Until then, shipments under $800 from China or Hong Kong are still duty-free. That said, there is growing online chatter about shipments from all countries being randomly charged, so caution is advised.

How D2C Brands Can Prepare

Even if your average order is under $800, this is a good moment to review your processes:

Update Your Communication Strategy

Communicate with customers – Especially loyal ones. Reassure them that your shipments are under the threshold and unlikely to be affected. Consider adding clear information at checkout about potential import fees.

Optimise Your Shipping Timeline

Ship quickly – While tariffs should only apply from the date of enforcement, some shippers report being charged on goods already in transit. Get ahead of potential changes by shipping fast.

Stay Informed on Policy Changes

Track developments – Section 321 could be altered or removed entirely in future. Keep tabs on updates, especially if the U.S. election shifts trade policy again.

Explore Alternative Fulfillment Methods

Consider fulfillment options – If you sell higher-ticket items to the U.S., fulfillment inside the States won’t eliminate tariffs entirely (since imported stock is still taxed), but it may reduce delays and improve customer experience.

Why Work With a Logistics Partner?

Working with a logistics partner like Packed Posted (Hello, it’s us 👋) means brand owners can focus on growing their business – increasing orders, improving marketing, and serving their community – while we focus on getting orders to customers.

“We’ve seen firsthand how customs confusion can derail even the most carefully planned shipments,” says Gregor Sey, founder of Packed Posted. “While we can’t make these tariffs disappear, we can help you navigate them with reduced disruption to your business and customers.”

We stay on top of shipping regulations, customs changes, and international trade policies so you don’t have to. And if things change? We help you navigate that too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all my US shipments going to be affected by these tariffs?

Not necessarily. Orders valued under $800 should still qualify for the Section 321 exemption, meaning they enter duty-free. However, implementation has been inconsistent, so clear communication with customers is essential.

Will I need to change my pricing for US customers?

It depends on your average order value and business strategy. For orders under $800, pricing may remain stable. For higher-value shipments, you might consider either adjusting prices or setting clear expectations about potential import fees.

How can I protect my customer experience given these changes?

Transparency is key. Clearly communicate potential charges, offer tracking information, and consider partnering with a logistics expert who can help navigate any customs issues that arise.

Could these tariffs be removed in the future?

Trade policies can change quickly. With the US political landscape constantly evolving, these tariffs could be modified or removed. Working with a logistics partner helps you stay adaptable to these changes.

What’s the most important thing I should do right now?

Review your US shipping strategy, ensure clear communication with customers about potential fees, and consider consulting with a logistics expert who understands international shipping regulations.

Next Steps

The international shipping landscape is changing rapidly, but your business doesn’t have to suffer. Here’s what you can do today:

Book a consultation with me and I’ll help to review your US shipping strategy

Update your checkout process to include clear information about potential import fees

Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about changing regulations

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has proposed significant changes to how low-value shipments (under $800) are handled under the “de minimis” threshold. These changes aim to address concerns that the current system negatively affects domestic production by allowing low-cost imports to undercut U.S. manufacturers. There has been a growing public outcry to close this tax loophole, particularly for Chinese imports.

What is the De Minimis Value?

The de minimis value is a threshold under which imported goods can enter the United States without incurring duties or taxes. Currently set at $800, this policy was introduced to simplify customs processing and reduce administrative burdens for low-value shipments. 92% of shipments currently fall below the De Minimis value.

Benefits to Consumers:

Faster shipping times, as goods under the threshold bypass lengthy customs procedures.

Lower costs, as consumers are not burdened with additional duties or fees for small purchases.

More choice for consumers, as they can source – more easily – from international sellers.

Encouragement of cross-border e-commerce by making international goods more accessible.

However, while beneficial to consumers (and businesses wishing to import low-value products or components), this system has faced criticism for creating an uneven playing field for domestic producers, particularly as large e-commerce platforms leverage this exemption to ship vast low-value parcels to U.S. customers.

Key Facts About the Proposed Rule Changes

Duty-Free Status Revocation:

Goods already subject to U.S. tariffs, such as those under Section 301 (e.g., Chinese imports), Section 232 (steel and aluminium), and Section 201 (solar products), will no longer qualify for duty-free treatment, even if their value is below $800.

Enhanced Documentation Requirements:

Shippers will need to provide detailed descriptions of goods, including the 10-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) code, to enable CBP to enforce tariff regulations better and identify non-compliant goods.

Increased Scrutiny on E-Commerce Platforms:

The CBP aims to close loopholes that allow platforms like Shein and Temu to flood the market with low-value, under-declared parcels that bypass tariffs and inspections.

Fair Competition for U.S. Businesses:

These measures are intended to level the playing field for American manufacturers and retailers while ensuring that imports comply with health and safety standards.

How This Could Impact UK-to-USA Shipments

Additional Administrative Burdens:

Small businesses may face more complex customs paperwork, with the requirement to classify items precisely using HTS codes. For many exporters, this could mean investing more time and resources in compliance.

Higher Costs for Certain Products:

Goods that previously qualified for duty-free entry may now incur tariffs, increasing the cost of exporting these items to the USA. UK-made goods might require price adjustments to remain competitive.

Longer Processing Times:

Stricter customs checks could result in delays for shipments, particularly for small-value goods. This could affect delivery timelines and customer satisfaction.

Increased Competition:

Higher tariffs on UK goods might make U.S.-made alternatives more appealing to American consumers. Exporters of premium UK-made goods should highlight quality and unique selling points to maintain demand.

During lockdown, e-commerce adoption was accelerated across all age groups. Understanding and being up to date on the delivery preferences of different age groups is crucial for retailers.

A recent study by Descartes, involving over 8,000 consumers across 10 geographies, has shed light on these preferences.

Before we delve into the findings, let’s clarify the age groups we’re referring to:

Gen Z: Born between 1997 and 2012, they are currently aged between 11 and 26.

Millennials: Born between 1981 and 1996, they are currently aged between 27 and 42.

Gen X: Born between 1965 and 1980, they are currently aged between 43 and 58.

Baby Boomers: Born between 1946 and 1964, they are currently aged between 59 and 77.

Key Findings:

E-commerce Spend: Millennials and Gen Z are more likely to increase their e-commerce spend, with 50% of them planning to do so, compared to only 33% of consumers aged 55 and above. This points to baby boomers still preferring to shop in-store.

Reaction to Delivery Problems: Younger consumers are more likely to take action against a retailer in case of a delivery problem. A staggering 80% of 18-34-year-olds would react, compared to 69% of 35-54 year-olds and 53% of those over 55. For brands targeting younger audiences, you must do what you can to mitigate delivery problems and ensure customer support is equipped pro-actively to resolve exceptions otherwise you can except one-star reviews.

Delivery Speed vs Cost: Speed of delivery is a priority for 39% of the 18–34 age group, compared to just 19% of early Gen X and Baby Boomers. Conversely, half of the early Gen X and Baby Boomers prioritised the lowest cost, compared to 30% of 18–34 year-olds. By offering same-day and time-guaranteed options, you can look to increase conversions from younger customers.

In-Person Shopping Preference: In 2023, only 36% of older consumers said they prefer to see a product in person before buying, a significant decrease from 55% the previous year.

Delivery Performance: Despite a 6% improvement in delivery performance over 2022 figures, 67% of consumers surveyed experienced a delivery failure in the three-month evaluation period. Of those affected, 68% took some form of action that translated into negative consequences such as bad reviews, complaints or refunds for the online retailer or delivery company.

These findings highlight the importance of understanding and catering to the delivery preferences of different age groups. By doing so, we can provide a better experience, improve customer loyalty, and ultimately increase revenues.

SKU's are everywhere and can be easy to setup a SKU system that works for you.

As an e-commerce startup founder, you may find managing your inventory a daunting task. With a constant cycle of incoming goods, outgoing orders, and returns, it can feel overwhelming and get’s pretty crazy once you factor in product variations for colour, size and even label tweaks for the country it will be sold in!

However, there’s a simple solution that can help you lay a solid foundation for your business’s future growth: SKU numbers.

What is an SKU Number?

SKU stands for Stock Keeping Unit. It’s a unique identifier that helps businesses track individual products within their inventory system. SKUs can contain alphanumeric characters, barcodes, or a combination of both, depending on your business’s needs.

Components of a SKU Number

The purpose of a SKU is to help businesses manage their inventory more efficiently. By using SKUs, you can easily monitor your inventory levels, replenish stock in a timely manner, and prevent stockouts or overstocks. They also allow you to analyse sales data, identify which products are performing well, and make informed decisions on pricing, marketing, and promotions.

SKU vs UPC: What’s the Difference?

A SKU code is assigned by you, the seller, and is used only to track inventory internally. Universal Product Codes (UPC), which are assigned externally by a nonprofit, are used for external tracking by retailers and distributors at the point of sale (POS).

Difference Between SKU and UPC

Creating SKUs does not have a standardised practice, but the practice of creating UPCs is standardised. The same product from a different seller will likely have a different SKU, but UPC codes will have the same code regardless of the seller.

Why is a SKU System Important for Your Business?

Industry Standard: SKUs are industry standard throughout the supply chain. Operating without SKUs is like having a business without a website – you just can’t compete without it.

Quick Information: SKU codes are a form of shorthand that helps everyone quickly understand what the product is at a glance.

Efficiency: SKU codes speed up the process of finding products because they allow you and your employees to search, track, and reference products and inventory levels in your warehouse.

Accuracy: Using SKU codes offers businesses the benefit of achieving significantly more accurate inventory management.

Quality Control: With everyone in your business using SKU codes, you decrease the number of problems that occur because of miscommunication.

Creating SKUs: Best Practices

Creating SKUs involves deciding what numbers and identifiers will be included in your SKUs, and in what order. Will you include the brand name? The colour? The manufacturer’s part number? Think about what attributes your products typically have that distinguish them from other products to figure out what needs to be included.

Process of creating SKUs

You’ll also want to create and maintain a list of codes for things like manufacturers, brands, colours, and sizes. This can be done on a spreadsheet by making a list of the manufacturers and brands that you carry in one column, and then assigning a code to each of them.

Use our SKU generator template

Download the Template: First, download the CSV template provided below or download the Excel version to use the formulas. It should open in any spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or OpenOffice Calc.

Understand the Columns: Each column in the template represents a different attribute of your product. Here’s what each column means:

SKU
: This is the unique identifier for the product.

Product Name
: This is the name of the product.

Brand
: This is the brand of the product.

Category
: This is the category the product falls under.

Color
: This is the color of the product.

Size
: This is the size of the product.

Price
: This is the price of the product.

Fill in the Template: Start filling in the template with your product information. Each row represents a different product. Make sure the SKU for each product is unique.

Save Your Work: Once you’ve filled in the template with your product information, save the file. Make sure to keep the file in CSV format.

Upload the File: Now, you’re ready to upload the file to your inventory management system. The exact process for this will depend on the system you’re using, but there should be an option to import products from a CSV file.

Check Your Work: After you’ve uploaded the file, check your inventory management system to make sure the products were added correctly. If there are any errors, you may need to adjust your CSV file and re-upload it.

Remember, consistency is key when creating SKUs. Keeping your SKUs consistent across all selling channels will save you time in the future and make it easier to integrate with various SaaS tools.

How Packed Posted uses SKUs to improve operating efficiencies

In the context of a third-party logistics (3PL) setting, such as Packed Posted, SKUs take on an even greater significance. They serve as a critical tool for verifying order contents. Each item is scanned using barcode readers, and the system cross-references these scans with the expected SKUs or UPC barcodes for the order. This process ensures that the correct items are being dispatched. The system will not allow packers to dispatch an order until it has been fully verified, thereby significantly reducing the risk of errors. This not only enhances operational efficiency but also boosts customer satisfaction by ensuring that customers receive exactly what they ordered.

Conclusion

Furthermore, maintaining consistency in SKUs across different selling channels can save you countless hours in the future and streamline the integration process with various SaaS tools. When your SKUs match across all platforms, it becomes much easier to track inventory levels, analyse sales data, and manage orders, regardless of where the sale was made. This consistency also simplifies the process of integrating with various software solutions, as the same SKU can be used to link and synchronise data across multiple systems. In essence, consistent SKUs serve as a common language, enabling seamless communication and data exchange between different platforms and tools, thereby optimising your business operations.

And finally, to conclude, SKUs play a crucial role in inventory management, as they enable businesses to efficiently track, manage, and analyse their products. By using a unique identifier, retailers can optimise their inventory control, order fulfilment, reporting, and customer support processes.

If you require any advise or help around SKUs please get in touch.

Stay ahead in e-commerce with key trends for 2023: AR shopping, omnichannel service, personalised CX, and conversational commerce

As a new business owner, it’s crucial to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving e-commerce landscape, but it’s equally important to know which trends to adapt to and which trends to let pass by.

Here are some key trends I’ve noticed so far this year.

Augmented Reality (AR) in Shopping

AR is becoming a popular tool in e-commerce, with over 100 million consumers already using it for shopping. AR allows customers to visualise and interact with products in various settings, creating a unique shopping experience. For example, Wayfair, an online homeware brand, has launched a mixed-reality shopping experience where customers can see how new items would look in their homes.

For the majority of businesses, including those which are clients of Packed Posted getting involved in the AR space is likely a distraction and very high risk. So unless you have the resources to hire a dedicated AR team, just stick to admiring what the big guys are doing.

Omnichannel Service

The line between online and offline retail is blurring. Customer service interactions are now happening across multiple channels. However, only a third of companies are currently omnichannel, meaning there’s a significant opportunity for businesses to offer a seamless shopping experience across different platforms.

If you can sell through more channels profitably without cannibalizing sales from your channels with the best margins, go for it. Packed Posted makes it very easy to sell across multiple online platforms which may free up resources for you to try your hand at markets and even retail listings.

Personalised Customer Experience

Today’s shoppers expect a personalised experience. Over half of consumers expect all customer interactions to be personalised. To meet this expectation, businesses need to provide their customer service agents with valuable customer context, such as details about recent purchases.

This is a must, obvious copy & pasted answers and generic “sorry I’ll get back to my DM’s later” Instagram stories make your business look unprofessional. I recommend that you utilise some of the free CRM tools such as Hubspot to keep a record of customers so you can quickly look up order information and reply to their support requests more efficiently and personally too.

Conversational, Social, and Livestream Shopping

Shoppers are increasingly expecting to communicate with businesses through messaging apps like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, and Line. Additionally, shopping through social media platforms and live streams is gaining popularity.

I’ve seen some good examples of this working well, but if you are uncomfortable on the camera it might not be something you enjoy and hiring actors may not look authentic for your business.

Master the basics such as Facebook messaging, then add more selling channels such as Whatapp, Instagram DM’s and lastly TikTok shop. Managing enquiries from all these platforms can be an accident waiting to happen.

Explore the benefits and challenges of in-house vs. outsourced fulfilment. Discover how a 3PL like Packed Posted can streamline operations for small businesses.

Efficient fulfilment is a cornerstone of e-commerce success. For small businesses, the decision between managing fulfilment in-house or outsourcing to a third-party provider can be pivotal. This article explores both options in-depth, providing a comprehensive guide for small businesses.

Understanding In-house Fulfilment

In-house fulfilment involves managing all aspects of storing, packing, and delivering products to customers. The costs can be substantial and many of them still exist when zero orders are being shipped out, with Aberdeen warehouse rental (£1500/month), rates (£1000/month), utilities (£150/month), staff (£1500/person/month), insurance (£200/month), software (£50-£2000/month), equipment (£2000 startup cost), and IT (£2000 one-off cost).

The Pros and Cons of In-house Fulfilment

While in-house fulfilment offers control over operations, the challenges are significant. High costs, the need for expertise, and the time commitment required can detract from focusing on core business aspects. Additionally, businesses must consider the costs of maintaining the warehouse, ensuring security, and complying with health and safety regulations.

Understanding 3PL Services

3PL services handle logistics operations for businesses. Packed Posted, for example, charges just £1.60 per order, and packaging usually costs £0.45 per order which can be up to half the cost of buying it yourself due to a 3PL buying power. Shipping costs vary but are usually 10-50% cheaper due to volume discounts.

The Pros and Cons of Outsourcing to a 3PL

Outsourcing to a 3PL offers cost-effectiveness, time-saving, scalability, and access to expertise. However, it’s crucial to choose a 3PL that keeps up with trends and continuously innovates its service. One potential downside is that not all 3PLs may offer the same level of service or keep up with the latest trends in e-commerce fulfilment.

Transitioning to a 3PL

The process of transitioning from in-house fulfilment to a 3PL can be surprisingly straightforward. Businesses simply send their products and a list of their selling channels to the 3PL. The 3PL then integrates these channels with their software, often enabling shipping to commence the next day.

Future Trends in E-commerce Fulfilment

One emerging trend in e-commerce fulfilment is same-day delivery. While this service can be expensive for small businesses to implement on their own, a 3PL can provide it more cost-effectively due to economies of scale.

Comparing In-house Fulfilment and 3PL Services

A comparison of the two options reveals that 3PL services can offer a more manageable and scalable solution for small businesses, especially those in Aberdeen, looking to minimise costs and maximise efficiency.

The decision between in-house fulfilment and outsourcing to a 3PL is crucial for small e-commerce businesses. While in-house operations offer control, the cost, time, and expertise required can be overwhelming. On the other hand, a 3PL like Packed Posted can provide a cost-effective, scalable solution.

If you’re a small business evaluating your fulfilment needs, consider whether a 3PL could be a good fit. With zero fixed costs and the ability to scale as required, Packed Posted is ready to help you streamline your operations.

Why 3PL services are vital for e-commerce startups, aiding in streamlining operations, cost reduction, and fostering growth.

In the fast-paced world of e-commerce, efficient shipping is a crucial component of success, especially for startups. This article will delve into the world of Third-Party Logistics (3PL) services and explore why they are a game-changer for e-commerce startups.

Understanding E-commerce Shipping

E-commerce shipping involves the processes of storing, packing, and delivering products to customers. For startups, managing these processes in-house can be a daunting task. It requires significant resources, including time, manpower, and a well-organised system. The challenges can be even more pronounced for startups with limited experience in shipping and logistics.

The Role of 3PL Services

Third-Party Logistics, or 3PL services, are companies that handle logistics operations for businesses. These services encompass order management, picking and packing, and shipping. By outsourcing these tasks to a 3PL service, e-commerce startups can streamline their operations.

While using a 3PL may result in slightly more variable costs per shipped order, the reduction in fixed overheads and lower risk make it a worthwhile investment.

The Benefits of 3PL Services for E-commerce Startups

Cost-effectiveness: By reducing overhead costs and leveraging the 3PL’s shipping rates, startups can significantly cut their operational expenses.

Time-saving: Outsourcing logistics allows startups to focus on their core business, freeing up valuable time that can be used to develop products and strategies.

Scalability: As your business grows, a 3PL service can easily scale with you, adjusting to increased order volumes and seasonal fluctuations.

Expertise: 3PL services have extensive knowledge and experience in the logistics industry, ensuring your products are handled professionally and delivered efficiently.

Why Aberdeen-based Startups Should Consider Local 3PL Services

For startups based in Aberdeen, using a local 3PL service like Packed Posted can offer several advantages.

Faster delivery times and local customer service can significantly enhance customer satisfaction.

Additionally, partnering with a local business that is involved with the wider business community can help boost your business’s reputation in the Aberdeen area, and unlock new business opportunities.

Preparing for Future Growth with 3PL Services

Investing in a 3PL service is not just about meeting your current needs; it’s also about preparing for future growth. As your business expands, the scalability of 3PL services ensures you can meet increasing demand without compromising on efficiency or customer service. It’s crucial to plan for scalability from the outset, setting your business up for long-term success.

Conclusion

In conclusion, 3PL services play a vital role in the success of e-commerce startups. By handling the complexities of shipping and logistics, they allow startups to focus on their core product or service. With reduced costs, increased scalability, and industry expertise, 3PL services are an investment that can drive growth and success.
